LIVE: June 9th 2006, Lappi Areena, Rovaniemi, Finland

The summer shows of 2006 started with a bang for Lordi. 4 full gigs in 3 days. The first one up was on June 9th 2006 at Lappi Areena in Rovaniemi, Mr. Lordi’s hometown. Earlier that day, to celebrate and award the band for winning the Eurovision Song Contest, the city of Rovaniemi gave Mr. Lordi a land lot of his choice, renamed the Sampo Square as Lordi’s Square and appointed all the band members honorary citizens of Rovaniemi. After the ceremonies, Lordi played a sold-out show to a crowd of 5000 people at Lappi Areena. The opening band was Grandevils, a local hard rock band with Kangas-Pete, Mr. Lordi’s good and childhood friend writing the songs. Note to collectors! Lordi also features on two songs on their self-titled CD, released in 2005. I sold T-shirts and other merchandise on this gig and boy, did I sell some! But I had time to take a few, not-so-good photos from the side of the stage.

The next show was at Sauna Open Air in Tampere the very next day, so we had a 700km night drive ahead of us so we’d make it in time…
