MEET & GREET: June 4th 2006, Kita in Karkkila

After Lordi won the Eurovision, many of the band members’ current and old home towns wanted to award them for their success. For example, the city of Rovaniemi gave Mr. Lordi a land lot of his choice, renamed the Sampo Square as Lordi’s Square and appointed all the band members honorary citizens of Rovaniemi. City of Porvoo awarded Awa with a grant and a commemorative plaque placed inside the music school. Amen got a huge, 2-meter tall, 400kg Hard Rock -stone in Mäntsälä.

On June 4th 2006 Kita visited his old, and my home town of Karkkila when they named the local youth center Kita. Back then, I lived in an apartment only a few steps from there so I just had to take my camera and go see what was happening. During the day, Kita visited a few familiar places in his old hoods and met with some younger fans.

After all these pleasantries, it was time for Lordi to hit the stages of summer shows and festivals in Finland. I was working at all of them and next week we’ll take a look at the first one at Mr. Lordi’s home town, Rovaniemi.
