TV APPEARANCE: May 6th 2006, YLE TV2 Muistathan
Before sending Lordi to Athens, Greece for the Eurovision Song Contest, the Finnish broadcast company, YLE, held a big, live televised gala and voting to determine the best Finnish ESC song of all time. The show took place at Tampere-talo, on May 6th 2006, just a few days before the band’s 2-week trip to Athens. During the day, also another TV station, Nelonen, interviewed the band.
The band performed Hard Rock Hallelujah the “ESC-way”, so all the lead and backing vocals were sung live but the music was playback. Aaaand they performed it twice, because Lordi won by a landslide, taking 42% of all the votes. For some reason, I didn’t take any photos of the performances, but here’s over 60 behind-the-scenes and backstage pics, which are way better and more interesting anyways ;) 19 of these I didn’t publish on the original MDH website.
Next up was of course the ESC and we all know how that went! Next week we’ll take a look at Market Square Massacre, the band’s return to Finland as national heroes and the free open air concert and public celebration with 90.000 people in the audience…
