MISCELLANEOUS: Summer shows 2006

We’ve come to the end of the summer 2006 shows here on MonsterDiscoHell, but this week I’ve got a little bonus gallery for you. Here’s some miscellaneous photos and stories from a couple of events I didn’t post as separate galleries. Here we go!

July 23rd 2006: Rockoff Festival, Mariehamn, Åland

I hinted at this show in one of the earlier throwback galleries. On previous night, Lordi played at Saapasjalkarock, Pihtipudas. After that show I drove 6 hours to Turku and took a 5-hour ferry ride to Åland and started to set up the stage and the merchandise booth. I was so goddamn tired but it was worth it! There were over 7000 people in the audience and seemed like almost everyone wanted to buy something before, during and after the show. My colleague Paula and I were working our asses off that night. Our booth was right opposite of the stage, on the other side of the “floor“. The photos are bad, shaky, grainy and taken from a long distance, but here they are anyway.

August 18th 2006: Umpitunneli, Tornio, Finland

This was a special and fun gig. The Meri-Lappi (Sea Lapland) local motorcycle/moped club, Los Dementitos, made this custom unique Lordi -bike and gifted it to the band. They even rolled it on stage during a break in the show. The moped was later on display at Lordi’s Rocktaurant and after that at a Lordi exhibition in Kemi. Tornio is a big and important part of Mr. Lordi’s history. Some of the very early Lordi demos were recorded there. He also spent some of his early years studying there, and the following day, because of his recommendation, we went to the legendary Meerin Grilli for lunch. And oh boy, those burgers… those burgers…
